RECIPES FROM THE BASILICATA REGION

Basilicata

Basilicata or Lucania, and Calabria are comprised of the rocky corniche from the Gulf of Policastro to Regglo; the grim, grand mountains of the Sila Massif with its extensive mountain pastures and wide horizons; and at the southern extremity of the peninsula between two inner seas, the Aspromonte Massif clad with pine, beech and chestnut forests.

The oysters (ostriche) of Taranto are tasty. The most original dish is capretto ripieno al forno, a roast kid stuffed with herbs.
